Bangladesh Cricket Board Reappoints Tony Hemming as Head of Turf Management

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has rehired Tony Hemming, previously the chief curator for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), as its Head of Turf Management. This appointment is for a two-year term, as confirmed on Saturday by Jalal Yunus Rahman, the chairman of BCB’s cricket operations.

Hemming, who recently left his position with the PCB, had previously been associated with the BCB between July 2023 and July 2024.

Jalal Yunus Rahman, the BCB’s cricket operations head, verified Hemming’s hiring.

Rahman stated, “Tony Hemming has been designated as the head of turf management for a duration of two years. He will supervise all of our international venues and curators, as well as oversee the training programs for Bangladeshi curators. Our board directors expressed substantial enthusiasm for his return.”

Rahman lauded Hemming’s expertise, describing him as ‘one of the foremost curators globally,’ and implied that his prior favorable engagement with the BCB played a role in his choice to come back.

The PCB verified Hemming’s departure from his role on Saturday. He had originally taken on the role in July of the previous year on a two-year agreement but resigned after thirteen months.

The Western Australian curator had joined the PCB after his agreement with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) concluded.

During his period as PCB chief curator, Hemming supervised pitch preparations for Pakistan’s ICC World Test Championship games against Bangladesh (two in August/September) and England (three in October) of the prior year.

Hemming also prepared pitches for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan hosted from February 19 to March 9.

Tony Hemming is a highly regarded curator boasting almost forty years of experience. He has served at well-known cricket grounds in Australia, including those in Melbourne, Perth, and Tasmania, as well as in Bangladesh, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, where he held the position of ICC’s Head Curator from 2007 to 2017 in Dubai.

During his tenure with the ICC, Hemming also oversaw pitch development at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, which served as one of Pakistan’s home grounds between 2009 and 2019.

Notably, Hemming took over from Zahid, who commenced his career by joining the chairman of the PCB Curators Committee in 2001. Zahid was later promoted to chief Curator in 2004. Although he resigned from this post in 2020, he was reappointed by Ramiz Raja, the former PCB chairman, in 2021.
