BBBofC to Investigate Eubank’s Sauna Use
Chris Eubank Jr. is scheduled to appear before the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) in July to address allegations regarding his use of a sauna before his bout with Conor Benn.
Eubank Jr. won against Benn last April with scores of 116-112. Following the match, he received medical attention for 36 hours due to dehydration.
Eubank previously faced a £375,000 fine for failing to meet the required weight, but he remained within the 10lb rehydration limit on the day of the fight.
BBBofC General Secretary Robert Smith acknowledged that the board was aware of the possibility that Eubank used a sauna to reduce weight.
Smith also mentioned that the board’s decision will be made after investigating Eubank about the alleged sauna use.
“We need to determine the exact circumstances. I want to ascertain the timeline of events,” Smith stated.
“The Southern Arena Council has summoned him. He is expected to appear in early July to provide his account, after which they will reach a conclusion.”
The BBBofC prohibits the use of saunas for weight loss in boxing. Recently, Adam Azim’s opponent, Eliot Chavez, was removed from their match after he used a prohibited suit to make weight.
Smith further clarified that the BBBofC’s final decision will depend on Eubank’s testimony, with medical professionals offering their insights, and the council determining the appropriate consequences.
“We will await his statement. Medical experts will be present, and the council will deliberate and determine the necessary course of action,” Smith concluded.
