Munguia Vows to Prove Himself as ‘Clean’ Athlete Amidst Controversy

Former junior middleweight champion, Jaime Munguia, is potentially facing disciplinary measures from the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) after his B-sample also tested positive for exogenous testosterone, according to recent international reports.

Following the initial positive A-test, his May 4 victory against Bruno Surace may be overturned and declared a no-contest. Furthermore, the fighter could be handed a suspension.

In a statement, Munguia’s management team affirmed the former champion’s innocence, despite confirming the positive test result.

The team further asserted that the positive result stemmed from contamination, assuring that Munguia would collaborate closely with specialists and relevant authorities to achieve complete clarity, as he is dedicated to fair competition.

“We want to reiterate that this outcome does not change our position: Jaime did not knowingly or intentionally ingest any banned substance,” the team stated.

“We remain steadfast in the belief that this result was caused by contamination, and we are continuing to take every possible step to identify the source.

“Jaime remains unwavering in his commitment to clean competition, and we will continue to work closely with experts and relevant authorities to reach full clarity.”

After the first test, Munguia conveyed his shock at the results. He formally requested the testing of his B-sample and expressed his willingness to undergo future tests to demonstrate his commitment to being a ‘clean’ athlete.

“I have spent my entire career and life doing things the right way — and this is no exception,” Munguia stated.

“I love boxing, and I am the first one who wants to clear everything up because boxing is my life. I can’t wait to get back in the ring. We’re going to prove that we never disrespected the sport, my opponents, or misled the fans.”
