Mudryk Faces FA Charge After Drug Test

The Football Association (FA) has formally accused Chelsea player Mykhailo Mudryk of violating anti-doping regulations following a failed drug test.

The Ukrainian winger had been provisionally suspended by the FA in December after an initial positive test. It was alleged that he used meldonium, a substance believed to enhance athletic performance.

Chelsea awaited the results of a ‘B’ sample analysis, hoping for a different outcome compared to the initial ‘A’ sample. However, the FA has now confirmed that Mudryk’s second sample also tested positive, leading to further disciplinary actions.

The FA stated officially that Mudryk is charged with violating Anti-Doping Rules due to the presence of a prohibited substance.

In their released statement, the FA mentioned that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations related to the presence and/or usage of a prohibited substance, according to Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA’s Anti-Doping Regulations.

The FA added that given the ongoing nature of the case, they are unable to provide any additional commentary at this stage.

Following his initial suspension in December, Mudryk asserted that he had never intentionally used any performance-enhancing or prohibited substances. He also conveyed his commitment to resolving the matter.

Mudryk stated that this development came as a complete shock, as he has never knowingly used any banned substances or violated any regulations. He further added that he is working closely with his team to determine how this situation arose.

He also expressed confidence that he had not acted improperly and expressed his optimism for a swift return to the field.

He added that, due to the confidential nature of the process, he couldn’t elaborate further at this time, but would provide updates as soon as possible.
