Salahuddin Addresses Speculation About His Role with the Team
COLOMBO: Bangladesh’s batting coach, Mohammad Salahuddin, on Tuesday countered media rumors that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is thinking about finding someone else to fill his position.
Speaking to reporters in Colombo before the third T20I, Salahuddin responded to concerns regarding the team’s subpar batting efforts and refuted claims that he has too much say in how the team operates.
“My position as a coach with the Bangladesh team is flexible. It has never been a matter of personal importance to me. It would be beneficial for the team if a more qualified individual were to take over as the batting coach.
“The Bangladesh team isn’t my family’s possession. When things don’t go as planned, I’ll be criticized, and when things go well, I’ll be praised; that’s just how things are,” Salahuddin stated.
Salahuddin also questioned recent media stories that asserted he had too much power within the team, including in player selection and roles.
“After instructing for 27–28 years, I’m now learning that there are numerous complaints about me within the team. I’d really like to understand what those issues are,” he continued.
He has worked closely with a number of current national players for a long time.
“It would be ideal if someone could give them to me in writing with solid proof. It will enable me to become better,” he said.
Salahuddin reaffirmed his dedication to the team, saying that if he thought it would be in the best interests of the country, he would not hesitate to step aside.
“If I believe the team needs to make changes for the greater good, I’ll probably do it. But how will I gain from playing favorites when the team keeps losing?” Salahuddin said in closing.
It’s important to note that Salahuddin, who was hired last November to lead the batting unit, has been under fire as a result of the team’s ongoing struggles with the bat.
