Sri Lanka’s Hasaranga Ruled Out of T20I Series Against Bangladesh Due to Injury

PALLEKELE: A significant blow has been dealt to Sri Lanka as their premier leg-spinner, Wanindu Hasaranga, has been sidelined for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh due to a hamstring injury. The series is scheduled to commence on July 10 in Pallekele.

Hasaranga sustained the injury to his right leg while batting in the final One Day International against Bangladesh during the recently concluded series.

In the first ODI, he played a crucial role, triggering a batting collapse that shifted the momentum in Sri Lanka’s favor, ultimately contributing to their 2-1 series victory.

Despite Hasaranga’s absence, Sri Lanka has chosen not to name a replacement for the series. He will return to Colombo to begin his rehabilitation at the High Performance Center.

Charith Asalanka will captain the team in the T20I series, as Sri Lanka aims to rebound from their previous T20I series loss to New Zealand. Following that defeat, several adjustments have been implemented within the squad.

The three T20Is are scheduled to take place on July 10 in Pallekele, July 13 in Dambulla, and July 16 in Colombo.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh has implemented five alterations to their T20I squad for the impending series, with top-order batter Najmul Hossain Shanto notably omitted.

Shanto, who participated in Bangladesh’s prior T20I series against the UAE and Pakistan in May, only appeared in one of the six matches.

After resigning from the T20I captaincy in January, he has now been excluded from the squad altogether.
