Awais Munir Advances Undefeated in Asian Snooker Championship

COLOMBO: The reigning champion, Awais Munir, showcased continued excellence at the Asian Six-Red Snooker Championship in Sri Lanka, securing his second victory against Indian competitor Pushpender Singh with a score of 4-2.

With this recent triumph, Munir has achieved a perfect record, winning all three of his matches in the group stage.

The individual frame scores in his latest victory over Singh were recorded as follows: 1-51, 47-0, 66-0, 10-46, 34-21, and 33-21.

Munir commenced his campaign impressively on Sunday, earning two significant wins, which included a maximum break of 75.

During his initial Group A match, he triumphed over Macau’s Chi Kin Chan with a score of 4-2, finalizing the last frame with a notable 52-point break. The scores were: 1-53, 41-11, 38-6, 9-38, 49-0, and 57-0.

Following this, he sustained his momentum with a commanding 4-0 victory against Ziaur Rahman Azad from Bangladesh, achieving a 75-point break, the highest attainable in the six-red format. The frame scores were: 65-0, 47-17, 59-8, and 75-0.

Meanwhile, fellow Pakistani competitors Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Sajjad also demonstrated strong performances in the tournament, successfully qualifying for the pre-quarterfinals.

IBSF World Champion Asif secured a decisive 4-0 victory against Oman’s Abdullah Al Raisi, highlighting his expertise and skill at the table.

Sajjad also dominated his match against Sri Lanka’s Mohammad Musharraf, winning without conceding a single frame.

By each winning two matches in their respective groups, Asif and Sajjad have both guaranteed their participation in the pre-quarterfinal stage.

Notably, Munir entered this tournament following his recent title win at the Asian Six-Red Snooker Championship held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on July 2, 2024.

In the final, he defeated Hong Kong’s Nansen Wan 6-3, gaining a significant advantage by winning three consecutive frames after a 2-2 tie.

Despite Wan’s attempt to recover in the eighth frame, Munir secured the win in the ninth, demonstrating superior potting skills and composure. The final frame scores were: 0-65, 35-26, 27-36, 38-20, 0-65, 13-46, 8-60, 34-0, and 27-40.
