Cameron Green to Rejoin Test Cricket Squad

Cricket Australia has announced its 15-member team for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final against South Africa, which will take place at Lord’s next month.

All-rounder Cameron Green is poised to return to Test cricket, having recovered from a back injury that has kept him off the field since March 2024.

He has been named in both the WTC final squad and the touring party for the upcoming Test series in the Caribbean, which was also announced on May 13.

Captain Pat Cummins and fast bowler Josh Hazlewood have also been called back to the Test squad after missing the 2025 Champions Trophy due to injuries.

Both players recently participated in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, Hazlewood was sidelined for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s final game due to a shoulder issue and his participation was uncertain before the league’s suspension.

Brendan Doggett, recognized as Player of the Match in the Sheffield Shield final, will be the sole travelling reserve.

The remainder of the squad is largely consistent with the team that achieved series victories over Sri Lanka (2-0) and India (3-1) last summer.

Chair of selectors George Bailey shared his enthusiasm regarding the return of key players and reflected on the team’s recent accomplishments.

“We are fortunate and eager to have Pat (Cummins), Josh (Hazlewood), and Cam (Green) back in the squad,” stated George Bailey. “The team concluded the WTC cycle with a notable series win in Sri Lanka, following a strong summer where they defeated India for the first time in a decade.

“These series highlighted consistent performance throughout the two-year cycle and now offer us a thrilling chance to defend the World Test Championship. Reaching the final is significant for the group, and they are anticipating the challenge South Africa will pose at Lord’s.”

Beau Webster maintains his position as an all-rounder after a promising start to his Test career. Additionally, Sam Konstas has rejoined the squad, having left the Sri Lanka series early to fulfill domestic commitments with New South Wales.

Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann has been chosen over Todd Murphy, though he is more likely to play during the three-Test West Indies series beginning on June 25.

Australia aims to be the first team to successfully defend the World Test Championship title.
