KINGSTON, JAMAICA: In a captivating opening T20 International, Australia overcame the West Indies by three wickets. The victory, played at Sabina Park in Kingston on Sunday, was largely due to an impressive all-round showing by debutant Mitchell Owen.

After winning the toss, Australian captain Mitchell Marsh opted to field. The West Indies took full advantage of favorable batting conditions, amassing a total of 189/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

West Indies’ Innings

Roston Chase spearheaded the innings with a dynamic 60 off 32 deliveries, which included nine boundaries and two sixes. Captain Shai Hope provided solid support, scoring a powerful 55 from 39 balls, highlighted by four boundaries and three sixes. Shimron Hetmyer added a swift 38 off just 19 balls, while opener Brandon King contributed 18. However, the remaining West Indian batsmen struggled, with six failing to reach double digits.

For Australia, Ben Dwarshuis stood out, securing 4/36 in his four overs. Mitchell Owen, alongside Sean Abbott, Cooper Connolly, and Nathan Ellis, each claimed a wicket.

In response, Australia successfully chased the target of 190, finishing at 190/7 in 18.5 overs. Cameron Green played a crucial role, hitting a rapid 51 off 26 balls, including two boundaries and five sixes, which stabilized the innings after some early setbacks.

However, the star of the match was Mitchell Owen. The young all-rounder immediately made his presence felt, backing up his bowling performance with a remarkable 50 off 27 balls. His innings featured six towering sixes and was instrumental in the victory.
