Astros Edge Out Yankees in Extra Innings

NEW YORK: In a tense match at Yankee Stadium on Friday, Carlos Correa’s timely single in the 10th inning propelled the Houston Astros to a 5-3 victory over the New York Yankees.

The Yankees’ reliever, Devin Williams, struggled in the 10th, starting with a wild pitch that advanced Jose Altuve to third base. Correa then drove a single through the infield, giving Houston a 3-2 lead.

Taylor Trammell followed up with a two-run homer, his third this season, sending the ball soaring to right-center on a changeup. Williams has now allowed five home runs this season, four in his last eight games.

Josh Hader secured the win, pitching the ninth and tenth innings, despite allowing an RBI single to Anthony Volpe and putting two runners on base. He ended the game by getting Trent Grisham out on a flyout to center field.

Earlier, Jose Altuve’s two-run homer in the first inning, his 20th of the season, provided Houston with an initial advantage. Astros starter Hunter Brown pitched effectively, allowing just one hit into the sixth inning before conceding two runs over 5 1/3 innings.

Yankees rookie Cam Schlittler, making his fifth career start, allowed two runs in five innings, recording three strikeouts. The Yankees have now suffered defeats in six of their last seven games and have a 3-8 record in extra-inning contests this season. Ben Rice contributed two hits, including an RBI single.

Looking ahead, Houston’s Framber Valdez is scheduled to pitch against New York’s Luis Gil on Saturday afternoon.
