Pakistani Cueists Advance at Asian Six-Red Snooker Championship
Colombo: Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Sajjad of Pakistan displayed remarkable form at the Asian Six-red Snooker Championship in Colombo, both securing their places in the pre-quarterfinals.
On the tournament’s second day, the two cueists clinched decisive victories during the morning session, solidifying their positions.
With two wins each in their respective groups, Asif and Sajjad have successfully qualified for the next stage of the competition.
Morning Matches
Mohammad Asif exhibited his expertise by comfortably defeating Abdullah Al Raisi of Oman with a 4-0 score in his morning match.
Mohammad Sajjad also dominated his match, overcoming Sri Lanka’s Mohammad Musharraf without conceding a frame.
Awais Munir, following his victories on the opening day, is set to compete against India’s Pushpinder Singh in his final group match.
Asif and Sajjad are scheduled for their last group matches in the evening, where they aim to secure the top spot in their respective groups before the knockout rounds.
Previous Performances
Defending champion Awais Munir had a strong start, achieving two notable wins on the first day, including a 75-point maximum break, which guaranteed his spot in the pre-quarterfinals.
Munir, having won two out of his three group matches, was joined by Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Sajjad, who also achieved significant victories on the tournament’s opening day.
In his Group A opener, Munir triumphed over Macau’s Chi Kin Chan 4-2, with frame scores of 1-53, 41-11, 38-6, 9-38, 49-0, and 57-0, securing the win with a 52-point break in the final frame.
He continued his momentum with a dominant performance against Bangladesh’s Ziaur Rahman Azad, recording a 75-point maximum break. The frame scores were 65-0, 47-17, 59-8, and 75-0.
IBSF World Champion Muhammad Asif began his campaign with a 4-1 victory over Cambodia’s Neang Tola, with frame scores of 37-17, 47-0, 9-59, 44-0, and 39-9.
Muhammad Sajjad also delivered a commanding performance, defeating Bahrain’s Khalil Busaif 4-0, with frame scores of 46-15, 34-21, 48-17, and 46-13.
Munir’s Recent Victory
Awais Munir recently claimed the Asian Six-Red Snooker Championship in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on July 2, 2024, after defeating Hong Kong’s Nansen Wan.
Munir secured a 6-3 victory, recovering from a 2-2 tie to win three successive frames for a 5-2 lead.
Despite a brief comeback by Nansen in the eighth frame, Munir showcased exceptional control in the ninth to clinch the title. The final frame scores were: 0-65, 35-26, 27-36, 38-20, 0-65, 13-46, 8-60, 34-0, 27-40.
