Ashes Series Anticipation Builds Following India-England Test Series

SYDNEY: According to Cricket Australia (CA) CEO Todd Greenberg, the current Test series between India and England could significantly enhance the marketing efforts for the upcoming 2025-26 Ashes series, which is scheduled to commence in November.

Speaking to the media, Greenberg conveyed his belief that the highly anticipated Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy would generate considerable excitement among fans, thereby boosting ticket sales for the Ashes.

“As a fan, it’s fantastic cricket to observe. I’m sure everyone will have their opinions when our English counterparts arrive, and we eagerly anticipate their visit.

“I admire their style of play, and I am excited to see how they perform on our grounds,” he stated.

Greenberg mentioned that pre-sale ticket figures for the Ashes have already surpassed those of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series by twofold, underscoring the immense anticipation surrounding the event.

“The ongoing cricket leading up to their Ashes tour is beneficial. It will drive higher ticket sales for us. We believe it will generate considerable buzz,” he added.

CA reported that tickets for the opening days of all five Ashes Tests, set to take place in Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney, have already been sold out.

In addition, tickets for the initial three days at the Gabba, Adelaide Oval, and SCG have also been completely purchased.

CA confirmed that tickets for the Ashes series sold out quickly, with allocations for the first three days of the Brisbane and Sydney Tests, along with day one of the Melbourne Test, selling out during the pre-sale period.

The first day of pre-sales saw an incredible surge in demand, surpassing previous records with 311,611 tickets sold across all international matches for the 2025-26 season.

This almost triples the previous single-day sales record of 111,741 tickets, which was set before the 2017-18 Ashes series.

Meanwhile, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 achieved a total attendance of 837,879, making it the most-watched Test campaign in Australia’s history outside of the Ashes.

However, the all-time record remains at 946,750, established during the 1936-37 Ashes series. England’s 2025-26 Ashes tour will consist of five Tests, commencing on November 21, 2025.
