Arsenal Secure Hincapie on Loan
Arsenal has officially announced the acquisition of Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan. The agreement was finalized on Monday, according to the Premier League team.
Since joining Leverkusen from Talleres in 2021, the Ecuadorian midfielder has played in 100 matches and was a key component of their Bundesliga victory in 2024.
The 23-year-old marks the eighth addition to the squad this summer under manager Mikel Arteta. Other players brought in include Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cristhian Mosquera, and Eberechi Eze.
Reports from the British media indicate that Arsenal might consider a permanent transfer next summer, with a potential agreement of £45 million ($60.79 million) already in place for Hincapie.
Arsenal’s manager, Arteta, commented on Hincapie’s robust physical attributes, noting that he will enhance the team’s strength.
Manager’s Comments
“Piero brings considerable physical presence, and his versatility and tactical adaptability provide us with enhanced defensive alternatives,” Arteta stated.
“He possesses a remarkable character, blending youthful energy with maturity. His presence will bolster our squad and increase competitiveness as we progress through the season.”
Sporting Director’s Perspective
Sporting Director Andrea Berta expressed his satisfaction with the signing, lauding Hincapie’s accomplishments at both the club and international levels.
“We are thrilled to have finalized the loan agreement for Piero Hincapie for the season,” Berta remarked.
“At just 23 years old, Piero has amassed substantial experience, both in the Bundesliga and internationally. He is a perceptive defender known for his strength and versatility.
“His performances for both club and country have consistently been of high caliber in recent years, and we are confident that Piero will continue his development this season and become a valuable asset for us.”
Hincapie will wear the number five jersey at Arsenal and will join the team after completing his international commitments.
