Arsenal Reportedly Agree to Terms with Eberechi Eze
International media outlets are reporting that Arsenal has secured a £67.5m ($91m) agreement for Eberechi Eze, reportedly intercepting Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of the Crystal Palace midfielder on Thursday.
Sources indicate that Spurs were increasingly optimistic about finalizing the deal on Wednesday, having purportedly reached an understanding with both Crystal Palace and Eze regarding personal terms.
Reports suggest Arsenal’s agreed terms with Eze involve a £60m fee with an additional £7.5m in potential add-ons. The Conference League playoff first leg against Fredrikstad on Thursday may be Eze’s final appearance for Palace, according to reports.
Prior to Kai Havertz’s injury, Arsenal’s primary concern was Ethan Nwaneri, who was in the last year of his contract. Nwaneri has since committed to a new five-year contract.
Consequently, Arteta’s team initially prioritized player sales before pursuing Eze, given their summer spending of around £200m.
However, upon learning the extent of Havertz’s injury, the Gunners reportedly decided to hijack Tottenham’s attempt to sign Eze from Palace.
It is believed that Havertz sustained a knee injury and will be sidelined for an unspecified period.
Havertz’s absence from Arsenal’s open training session at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday fueled speculation. Reports indicated the 26-year-old is undergoing evaluation to determine the duration of his absence.
Arsenal also remains without Gabriel Jesus, who is recovering from knee surgery performed in January, making Havertz’s potential extended absence a significant setback for the team.
Eze, 27, was supposedly interested in joining Spurs. However, being a lifelong Arsenal supporter, the midfielder was reportedly receptive to joining the Gunners when they initially expressed interest.
