Anisimova Clinches Victory Over Raducanu in Swift Match

MONTREAL: Emma Raducanu, Britain’s top female tennis player, experienced a swift conclusion to her recent positive run as she was defeated by American player Amanda Anisimova at the Canadian Open on Friday.

Anisimova, currently ranked seventh globally, achieved a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory on Centre Court in just 64 minutes.

From the beginning, Anisimova established control with forceful baseline strokes, taking a 5-2 advantage early before securing the first set by breaking serve for the third time.

She continued her strong play in the second set, quickly moving to a 5-0 lead. Raducanu managed to win a game to avoid a shutout but struggled to counteract the American’s momentum.

Raducanu, who had previously defeated Anisimova in two encounters, struggled to gain traction, committing 22 unforced errors in what became a lopsided match.

“I simply couldn’t get my shots right today. Amanda performed exceptionally,” Raducanu acknowledged.

Meanwhile, top-seeded Iga Swiatek demonstrated her impressive skills, securing a spot in the fourth round with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory over German player Eva Lys.

Swiatek achieved early breaks in both sets and prevented her competitor from establishing any rhythm, concluding the match in one hour and thirteen minutes.

Reflecting on her performance, the Polish star stated, “It wasn’t straightforward, but I adhered to my strategy. Eva executed some excellent shots, but I’m pleased I could accomplish my task.”

Swiatek is now scheduled to compete against Denmark’s Clara Tauson in the next stage. They previously played at Wimbledon during the round of 16 earlier this year, where Swiatek prevailed 6-4, 6-1 before claiming her initial Grand Slam title on grass.
