Antonelli’s Disappointing Start to F1 Season

Mercedes junior driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli has voiced his dissatisfaction with his performance thus far in the current Formula One season. He admitted struggling to identify positive aspects and expressed that nothing seems to be clicking, according to recent reports.

After the initial 12 races, Antonelli occupies the seventh position in the drivers’ standings with 63 points. In contrast, his teammate George Russell holds the fourth spot with 147 points, having secured one Grand Prix victory and five podium finishes, while Antonelli has only achieved a single podium finish.

Antonelli lamented the series of setbacks, making it challenging to find any encouraging signs. He feels as though circumstances are working against him.

Antonelli’s Remarks
  • “Firstly, I’m at a loss for words. It appears everything is going wrong currently, and it’s difficult to remain positive. I’m not very pleased, to be honest. There have been too many races where I’ve scored zero points,” Antonelli stated.
  • “Following the Canadian Grand Prix, I’ve been trying, but I’m struggling to find any positives. It feels as though nothing is working in our favor. I need to refocus, reset, and attempt to rediscover the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Amid Antonelli’s lackluster season, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has urged the 18-year-old to establish some consistency.

Wolff’s Perspective

“We’ve had a difficult time since Montreal, with two races that were truly below par. Everyone in the team, including Kimi, feels this way. As a team and for Kimi, we need to re-establish a baseline. He’s a talented driver, and there’s a reason we chose him,” Wolff commented.

With 12 races remaining in the 2025 Formula 1 season, Antonelli has not yet finalized a contract extension for 2026. His future results will significantly influence his prospects.
