Ancelotti’s Madrid Future Uncertain Amid Brazil Job Speculation
Carlo Ancelotti’s position as head coach of Real Madrid appears increasingly precarious following a season that fell short of expectations. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is reportedly confident in their pursuit to appoint him as the next manager of the Brazil national team, with the aim of having him in place before the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.
Speculation surrounding Ancelotti’s future at Madrid has intensified after a season where the club failed to secure any major trophies, losing out in the Champions League, Copa del Rey, and finishing as runners-up to Barcelona in La Liga.
Following Madrid’s most recent Clásico defeat—a loss against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final—Ancelotti commented, “My future will be discussed in the coming weeks, but not today.”
Barcelona has demonstrated dominance over Madrid this season, securing victories in all three Clásico matches, including a decisive win in the Spanish Super Cup final in January and a significant victory in La Liga last October.
Brazilian businessman Diego Fernandes, believed to be representing the CBF, was observed at the Clásico. He is thought to have engaged in discussions aimed at persuading Ancelotti to accept the Brazil managerial role upon his departure from Los Blancos.
Ancelotti is anticipated to succeed Dorival Junior, who was dismissed following Brazil’s defeat to Argentina the previous month.
Brazil is currently positioned in the top half of the South American World Cup qualifying standings and remains a strong contender for a spot in the expanded tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada next year.
The CBF believes that Ancelotti’s extensive experience could transform Brazil into formidable contenders for the World Cup title.
While Ancelotti asserts that his contract with Real Madrid extends until the end of the season, it is widely speculated that, in light of the disappointing campaign, he may either resign or be dismissed by the club.
