Manchester United Not Ready for European Competition, Says Coach Amorim

Manchester United’s coach, Ruben Amorim, stated on Tuesday that the team requires further development before being prepared for European competitions. He emphasized the need to establish a solid foundation for future progress.

Following a disappointing previous season where they secured 15th position in the Premier League and a defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final in May, Manchester United failed to qualify for any of Europe’s major tournaments.

Ahead of their League Cup second-round match against Grimsby Town, who compete in the fourth tier, Amorim acknowledged the team’s current limitations regarding participation in the Champions League.

“In my opinion, we were not adequately prepared to compete in Europe. To perform well in Champions League matches and then transition to Premier League games, our team needs more time to grow,” Amorim commented.

“Consequently, the players must compete rigorously for their positions, and this dynamic can lead to significant changes.”

Manchester United commenced their Premier League campaign with a 1-0 loss at their home ground against Arsenal the previous week and subsequently drew 1-1 with Fulham. To date, they have accumulated only one point from two matches.

Amorim further explained the highly competitive nature of European games, highlighting the necessity for the club to invest time in developing a robust foundation.

“The matches are exceptionally competitive. We require time to build a solid base, which will enable us to advance in the future. Eventually, we will reach a stage where European competition becomes essential for providing playing opportunities for all team members,” Amorim added.

The Portuguese coach also provided an update regarding defender Noussair Mazraoui, who sustained an injury during the pre-season.

“His return is anticipated around next week; however, this is still under evaluation. He is nearing full recovery, and we are finalizing specific exercises to ensure he does not encounter any further setbacks,” he concluded.
