Mohammad Amir Set to Rejoin Essex for 2025 Vitality T20 Blast
Essex County Cricket Club has confirmed that Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir will return for the upcoming 2025 Vitality T20 Blast season.
The experienced 33-year-old brings considerable T20 expertise to strengthen Essex’s bowling options throughout the campaign.
Amir, who previously represented Essex from 2017 to 2019, has a solid track record with the club, having played 21 matches and secured 24 wickets during his initial time with the team.
Although he didn’t participate in the knockout stages, Amir was an integral part of Essex’s historic double-winning squad in 2019, making substantial contributions during the group matches.
Across his T20 career, Amir has taken 371 wickets in 322 games worldwide. He has also played for Pakistan in 36 Test matches, 61 ODIs, and 62 T20 internationals, securing 71 wickets in T20Is at an average of 21.94.
Amir, who recently featured for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League, where he claimed 7 wickets in 6 games, expressed his enthusiasm about his return to Essex.
“I am delighted to be back at Essex, a place that feels like home,” Amir stated.
“The support from the fans and the team has always been incredible. I’m eager to give my all and help the team achieve success this season,” he added.
The left-arm bowler will be available for all group-stage games and could stay with the team for the knockout rounds should Essex progress. He will wear the number 5 shirt upon his return to Chelmsford.
Essex Director of Cricket Chris Silverwood commented on the signing, saying, “We are very pleased to welcome Mohammad back to Chelmsford.”
“Having collaborated with him in the past, I am aware of the quality and experience he possesses. His presence will undoubtedly strengthen our already formidable squad as we head into this T20 campaign,” Silverwood concluded.
Essex will begin their campaign on May 30 with a match against Hampshire Hawks.
