Amir Khan Praises Canelo, Considers Him Among Boxing Greats
Former British boxer Amir Khan issued a warning to Chris Eubank Jr. ahead of a potential bout against Canelo Alvarez, possibly slated for May 2026.
Khan himself faced Canelo in a 2016 middleweight match, suffering a sixth-round knockout in Las Vegas.
Throughout his career, Canelo has triumphed over seven British fighters, including world champions Amir Khan, Liam Smith, Callum Smith, and Matthew Hatton.
According to two-time world champion Khan, Eubank is already facing a formidable challenge in taking on Canelo at 168 pounds.
Khan supported his view, noting that Canelo possesses outstanding skills, suggesting that no British fighter currently has the ability to defeat him.
“I regard Canelo as an exceptional fighter. I don’t believe any British boxer possesses the skillset required to overcome someone of Canelo’s caliber,” Khan stated.
“While anything is possible, I currently don’t foresee it happening. Canelo has earned his place among the all-time greats.”
Khan also reflected on his 2016 fight with Alvarez, describing it as a significant event that boxing needed.
“It was a truly remarkable fight and a positive event for boxing.
“In all honesty, few anticipated it would unfold as it did.
“I have immense respect for both fighters. It was a captivating contest that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.”
