Charlie Woods Clinches First AJGA Victory
Charlie Woods, the 16-year-old offspring of golf legend Tiger Woods, secured his inaugural American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) triumph on Wednesday. He clinched a three-stroke victory at the Team TaylorMade Invitational, hosted in Bowling Green, Florida.
Competing in his fifth AJGA tournament, Woods commenced the final round trailing overnight leader Luke Colton by a single stroke. He combined two bogeys with an impressive eight birdies, carding a six-under-par 66 on the Black Course at Streamsong Resort. This performance elevated his week’s total to 15 under.
Willie Gordon (65), Phillip Dunham (68), and Luke Colton (70) concluded the event in a three-way tie for second position.
Following an initial birdie-bogey sequence, Woods seized the outright lead during the latter part of the front nine, achieving four birdies across a remarkable five-hole stretch. Subsequently, he established a three-shot advantage with birdies on the 11th and 12th holes. Despite dropping a shot at the 13th, he immediately rebounded with a birdie on the par-four 14th, covering 298 yards, where he drove the ball onto the green. He concluded his round by securing par on the final four holes.
Prior to this week’s accomplishment, Woods’s previous best showing on the AJGA circuit was a shared 25th position at the Junior Invitational held at Sage Valley in March.
Woods has participated alongside his father in the past five editions of the PNC Championship, a 36-hole tournament featuring two-player teams composed of a major champion and a family member. In December of last year, they achieved the runner-up position for the second instance.
Tiger Woods has been out of action since undergoing surgery in March to address a ruptured Achilles tendon. He is anticipated to be absent for the remainder of the PGA Tour season.
