Alcaraz Advances to Japan Open Final, Set to Face Fritz

TOKYO: World Number one Carlos Alcaraz continued his impressive form by reaching another final, overcoming Casper Ruud with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the semi-final of the Japan Open held on Monday.

Alcaraz is now scheduled to compete against Taylor Fritz in the final match. Fritz secured his spot after a decisive victory against his fellow American, Jenson Brooksby, winning 6-4, 6-3 in straight sets.

Alcaraz will also aim to settle the score after an unexpected loss to Fritz at the Laver Cup in San Francisco earlier this month.

Alcaraz expressed respect for Fritz’s current performance level, acknowledging his strong play and stating that he intends to make tactical adjustments for what he anticipates will be a challenging match.

“He’s been delivering excellent tennis recently,” Alcaraz commented.

“His performance against me and Alexander Zverev at the Laver Cup, as well as his showing in this tournament, indicate that he’s feeling confident and at ease on the court. I plan to modify certain aspects of my game. The court’s speed and other factors are different.

“It will present another challenge for me, but I am enthusiastic about it. I intend to utilize the positive elements from today’s match and those from my time in San Francisco. It promises to be an engaging match, and I am eager to participate.”

Ruud, Alcaraz’s Norwegian adversary and a six-time Grand Slam winner, exhibited remarkable skill from both the baseline and the net to claim the initial set.

Alcaraz rebounded from a set behind, leveling the match with a significant ace. He then achieved a crucial break to establish a 3-2 advantage in the final set, ultimately securing the victory.

Earlier in the day, American player Fritz showcased dominance over Brooksby in the first semi-final. He delivered exceptional serving during critical moments, earning his place in his third final of the season.
