Alcaraz Withdraws from Madrid Open Due to Injury

Carlos Alcaraz has announced his withdrawal from the 2025 Madrid Open because of an adductor injury. The Spanish tennis star confirmed this during a press conference held on Thursday.

The multiple Grand Slam champion also spoke about a separate hamstring issue that arose in Barcelona.

“During the Barcelona final, I sustained an injury to the adductor muscle in my right leg. I also felt some discomfort in my left hamstring,” Alcaraz explained.

The injury occurred during the Barcelona Open final against Holger Rune, where Alcaraz was defeated 7-6 (8-6), 6-2.

He was awaiting updates on his physical condition; however, following medical evaluations, he has decided to withdraw from the Madrid Open.

“I really wanted to participate here, but we have chosen to avoid any risks,” Alcaraz stated.

“It’s important to pay attention to your body. Madrid is a tournament I always anticipate. It is a great event, and I play with a lot of passion. But, things did not unfold as I had hoped. Ultimately, we decided it was best not to take any chances, given the circumstances. I will focus on resting and recovering to return to the court as soon as possible.”

The 21-year-old also expressed concerns about the upcoming Italian Open 2025 but remains focused on participating in the French Open, where he was the reigning champion.

“I’m not taking anything for granted. Our aim is to be at Roland Garros, and we will strive to participate in Rome as well,” he added.
