Akmal Encourages Babar to Revert to Proven Techniques

Amid escalating criticism of his recent performances, Test cricketer Umar Akmal has voiced his support for Babar Azam. Akmal is advocating for the star batsman to go back to the playing style that initially propelled him to prominence, in order to regain his previous form.

Babar has faced considerable scrutiny due to his struggles to achieve significant scores. He recorded three successive single-digit scores in PSL 10 before achieving a resilient 47-run innings in Peshawar Zalmi’s narrow two-wicket loss to Karachi Kings on Monday.

Speaking on his YouTube platform, Akmal conveyed his belief in Babar’s talent and called for patience from both supporters and critics.

He also advised the top-order batsman to disregard external distractions and refocus on the methods that brought him success, amidst increasing pressure and negative feedback.

“Although he is currently in a difficult period, he remains Pakistan’s premier batsman. I urge Babar Azam to disregard all the criticism on social platforms and concentrate solely on his cricket,” Akmal stated.

Akmal emphasized the high expectations placed on Babar, considering his status as a national figure and an inspiration for aspiring cricketers.

“He should adopt his established approach to the game. Regaining his rhythm depends on it,” he suggested.

Akmal suggests that Babar’s previous success stemmed from his ability to establish himself at the crease before increasing his scoring rate, especially in T20 matches, insisting that he must re-adopt the strategy that established him as a leading T20I batsman globally.

“Previously, he would take his time initially before accelerating later. He needs to revert to that approach. If he adopts his natural game, the runs will come, along with renewed confidence and his position in the T20I team,” Akmal commented.

Notably, Babar’s Peshawar Zalmi is encountering difficulties in the ongoing PSL 10, having secured only one victory in their initial four games. With six matches remaining in the league stage, Zalmi requires a significant improvement to maintain their chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
