Zampa Reprimanded for Audible Obscenity in ODI

Australia’s leg-spinner, Adam Zampa, has received an official reprimand for uttering an audible obscenity during the initial One Day International against South Africa on August 19 in Cairns.

This marks Zampa’s first infraction in the last two years, resulting in one demerit point for a Level 1 violation of the ICC Code of Conduct.

The event took place during the 37th over of South Africa’s batting innings. Following a misfield and subsequent overthrow while he was bowling, Zampa’s inappropriate language was picked up by the stump microphone.

He was charged in accordance with Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses the use of audible obscenities during international matches.

As the 33-year-old admitted his mistake and accepted the imposed sanction, a formal hearing was deemed unnecessary.

Level 1 violations carry penalties ranging from a reprimand to a maximum fine of 50% of the player’s match fee, in addition to one or two demerit points.

During the match, Australia experienced a significant 98-run defeat. Zampa secured one wicket for 58 runs across his ten overs. The subsequent second and third ODIs are scheduled to take place in Mackay on Friday and Sunday.

Prior to this, Australia clinched the T20I series against South Africa with a 2-1 victory.
