Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Meeting Underway
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convened in Islamabad today, Tuesday, to sight the Zil Hajj moon for 1446 Hijri. The purpose is to determine the official dates for Eid ul Adha this year.
Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad, the chairman of the central committee, is leading the session.
In addition, the Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees are also holding separate meetings at their respective locations to observe the crescent.
Eid ul Adha is observed on the 10th of Zil Hajj, a date of great importance as it coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage. According to forecasts from the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), Eid ul Adha is anticipated to be celebrated on June 17 in Pakistan.
The agency stated that the first day of Zil Hajj, the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is expected on May 29, subject to the official moon sighting. This prediction suggests that Eid ul Adha will fall on Monday, June 17.
Suparco indicated that the Zil Hajj moon will emerge on May 27 at 8:02 am. However, its age at sunset will only be 11 hours and 34 minutes, significantly decreasing the likelihood of it being visible across the country.
Eid ul Adha is the second major Islamic festival. The festivities typically extend over three days.
This is a developing story; further updates will be provided as they become available.
