Teenager and Suspected Robber Killed in Karachi Gunfight
Tragedy struck in Karachi’s Orangi Town on Wednesday night when a 14-year-old boy and a suspected robber were fatally shot during a shootout. The incident occurred as robbers targeted a local resident, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
The young victim, identified as Hussain, lost his life during an attempted street robbery in the Pakistan Bazaar police station’s jurisdiction. Authorities detailed that two individuals on a motorcycle were attempting to rob a passerby when a resident, Shahenshah Hasan, intervened, using his licensed firearm.
One of the alleged robbers died at the scene. The other one managed to escape with injuries. Tragically, during the confrontation, Hussain, the son of a man named Ali, was caught in the crossfire and killed.
Law enforcement officials recovered a weapon and ammunition from the deceased suspect. Hasan’s licensed pistol was also taken into custody for forensic examination. Efforts to identify the suspect who fled are ongoing, and the investigation is still active.
According to family accounts, the exchange of gunfire transpired near a mosque in the Gulshan-e-Bihar area.
Speaking to reporters, the victim’s uncle mentioned that the robbers tried to steal Hussain’s cell phone. As Hussain attempted to stop the robber from fleeing, he was pulled by the assailant, who then fired nine shots.
Hussain was quickly transported by his family to a nearby private hospital. Unfortunately, relatives confirmed that he had already passed away from his wounds en route to the hospital.
Hussain was the third of four siblings. His uncle shared that he was a Hafiz-e-Quran and was furthering his religious education to become an aalim.
The bereaved family has implored the government to deliver justice. “We beseech the government to ensure we receive justice,” the victim’s uncle stated. Hussain’s brother also expressed his grief, urging that justice be served for his brother’s death.
The event has plunged the family and neighborhood residents into profound grief. Police are continuing their inquiry into the robbery and the ensuing fatal shooting.
In a separate incident, a man who was injured resisting a robbery on Tuesday has died.
Irfan, aged 50, was wounded during a robbery near Noor-ul-Islam Masjid in Korangi and later died on Wednesday.
The incident unfolded when robbers on a motorcycle shot Irfan as he resisted their attempt to rob him. He was transported to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he died during treatment.
According to Zaman Town SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi, a case was initially registered under attempted murder charges. Following Irfan’s death, the charges will be upgraded to murder. Police have stated that they are actively searching for the suspects using technical resources.
These killings bring the total number of people killed in Karachi by robbers’ gunfire in 2024 to 33.
