Yamal Addresses Flick’s ‘Egos’ Remarks After Draw

Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal, aged 18, has commented on Hansi Flick’s remarks regarding ‘egos’ following their 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano, according to reports on Wednesday.

Flick voiced his apprehension about the potential for inflated egos among players after the tie with Vallecano.

“I don’t want egos,” Flick stated plainly.

“Egos undermine success. Last year, we functioned as a cohesive unit, and we must maintain that dynamic.”

Yamal, however, remains unconcerned by Flick’s sentiments, suggesting they were expressed in the heat of the moment.

“Everyone is entitled to their own perspective,” Yamal commented.

“Emotions run high after a draw because the ultimate goal is always to win. However, I don’t believe it is necessarily connected. We’ve secured seven points out of a possible nine in challenging away games.”

“We haven’t had a home fixture yet. I don’t think it is linked to that, but rather that we didn’t perform optimally. We lacked intensity from the outset, and we made numerous errors, but these things happen. We simply need to regain our form swiftly and prepare for our next match.”

Yamal, at just 18 years old, has become a significant force in football, already a prominent figure for both Barcelona and the Spanish national team. His accomplishments include winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup, and Euro 2024.

He is a contender for the Ballon d’Or and has openly expressed his ambition to win the prestigious award.

“Naturally, every player aspires to win the Ballon d’Or, and anyone who denies it is being untruthful,” he admitted.

“Being shortlisted at the age of 18 is, I believe, a significant achievement, and I am hopeful for it. Our ambition is to triumph in the Champions League. Both the Ballon d’Or and the Champions League title are dreams, particularly the Champions League for Barcelona would be incredible.”

“I enjoyed a successful season last year with both the national team and Barcelona, securing a starting position and playing with assurance. I am enthusiastic about the possibilities this season holds. With the World Cup on the horizon, it’s always a key focus, and I eagerly anticipate what’s to come.”
