Brock Lesnar’s WWE Return: Details Revealed

During the August 4, 2025, edition of RAW, veteran WWE commentator Michael Cole provided insights into the circumstances surrounding Brock Lesnar’s surprising comeback at SummerSlam.

Cole shared on-air that he had spoken with WWE President Nick Khan and Chief Content Officer Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque. He inquired about when the decision was finalized for Lesnar to return to WWE.

According to Cole, WWE officials reached out to Lesnar several weeks prior, suggesting it was the appropriate time for his return. Lesnar agreed, paving the way for his appearance at SummerSlam 2025.

Lesnar’s return at the conclusion of SummerSlam 2025 at MetLife Stadium marked his first WWE appearance since 2023. He entered the ring following John Cena’s defeat by Cody Rhodes and delivered an F-5, leaving Cena prone.

The crowd reacted with excitement upon hearing Lesnar’s entrance theme, acknowledging the shock of his return. Without uttering a word, Lesnar confronted Cena before executing his signature move.

This occurrence mirrored Lesnar’s unexpected return at SummerSlam in 2021, during which he also targeted Cena after a match with Roman Reigns. The rivalry between Cena and Lesnar dates back to Extreme Rules 2012.

Cena’s appearance this year signaled a character shift, solidifying his transition back to a fan-favorite. Earlier in 2025, Cena had turned heel at Elimination Chamber, aligning himself with The Rock. However, he regained fan support leading up to SummerSlam, only to be ambushed by Lesnar.

WWE has announced that Cena will address Lesnar’s return on SmackDown this Friday. Cody Rhodes secured the Undisputed WWE Championship by defeating Cena at SummerSlam.
