Global Condolences After Air India Plane Crash in Ahmedabad

Following the devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad, India, which claimed the lives of at least 242 individuals on Thursday, leaders from Pakistan and across the globe have conveyed their profound sorrow and sympathy.

Air India Flight 171, en route to London, crashed shortly after its departure from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The aircraft, carrying 242 passengers and crew, went down in a populated area, impacting a medical college dormitory just outside the airport’s boundary during lunchtime. The flight was destined for Gatwick Airport, located south of London. Initial reports suggest that there were no survivors.

Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Defence Khwaja Asif expressed his sadness over the tragic event, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic crash of #AirIndia Flight AI171 near Ahmedabad today.” In a message shared on X, he extended heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those on board, assuring them of thoughts and prayers.

PPP Chairman and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari commented, “Saddened to hear a tragic incident occurred earlier today, where an Air India flight with approximately 240 passengers crashed shortly after takeoff near Ahmedabad, India. I express my profound condolences to the people of India.”
