K-Electric CEO Ordered to Be Removed Following Harassment Finding
The Sindh Provincial Ombudsman has mandated the dismissal of K-Electric’s Chief Executive Officer, Moonis Alvi, after determining he was culpable of harassing a female colleague.
Justice (r) Shahnawaz Tariq, serving as the Provincial Ombudsman for Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace, also levied a penalty of Rs2.5 million against Alvi, which is due within one month.
The ruling stated the complainant experienced torment and emotional anguish due to the actions of the KE CEO.
The ombudsman has instructed authorities to freeze Alvi’s assets, both movable and immovable, should he fail to adhere to the order.
The ruling further stated that his [Moonis Alvi] CNIC and passport might be suspended if the penalty remains unpaid.
The decision was made in accordance with the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act.
In response to the verdict, Moonis Alvi expressed his “profound disappointment,” asserting that the conclusions do not align with his recollection of events. The KE CEO communicated that he is conferring with legal advisors to lodge an appeal.
“I hold the legal process and its institutions in high regard,” he affirmed. “However, with a clear conscience, I must contest the findings as inaccurate.”
He described the matter as personally and professionally challenging, reiterating his commitment to seeking the truth through lawful channels.
“Meanwhile, I am thankful for the backing of those who are familiar with me, have collaborated with me, and have faith in due process. My dedication to the values of justice and respect in the workplace remains steadfast,” he added.
Alvi became part of the power distribution firm in 2008, and has occupied vital positions within the organization, including CFO, Company Secretary, and Head of Treasury, prior to his appointment as CEO in 2018.
The board of directors at K-Electric (KE) recently reappointed him as CEO.
“During a meeting on July 7, 2025, the board of directors re-appointed Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi as Chief Executive Officer of K-Electric, effective July 30, 2025,” according to the KE press release.
