Independence Day Celebrations Begin Nationwide

Pakistan has commenced Independence Day celebrations under the official theme of Marka-e-Haq, featuring various events and activities across the country.

Marka-e-Haq commemorates the period of conflict with India, starting from the Pahalgam attack on April 22 and concluding with Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos on May 10.

This year, a potential four-day holiday period is anticipated in parts of the country, as Independence Day and Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) are expected to occur on successive days.

According to the Cabinet Division, August 14 will be observed as a public holiday nationwide to commemorate Independence Day.

Chehlum, marking the 40th day of mourning following the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), is projected to fall on Thursday, August 15.

While not included in the list of federal public holidays, provincial governments and local administrations reserve the right to declare holidays within their respective jurisdictions.

In 2024, the Sindh government announced a holiday for all public and private educational institutions across the province for Chehlum.

If similar provincial holidays are announced this year, it could result in an extended weekend, with Friday, August 16, and Saturday, August 17, combining with the official holidays to create a possible four-day break.

Currently, official announcements regarding Chehlum-related holidays at the provincial level are still pending.
