PCB in Talks with CWI to Alter White-Ball Series Format
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has verified ongoing discussions with Cricket West Indies (CWI) regarding a potential modification to the format of their scheduled white-ball series. The proposal involves substituting the planned ODIs with additional T20Is.
Following the announcement of Pakistan’s team for the Bangladesh tour, PCB Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sumair Ahmad Syed addressed the media, stating that negotiations are nearing completion and a resolution is anticipated shortly.
Sumair stated, “Considering the upcoming T20 World Cup early next year, our primary objective is to maximize T20 exposure for the team. To achieve this, we’re set to compete against Bangladesh, and we’re urging the West Indies to convert the matches into T20s. Updates on this matter are expected within the next day or two.”
The original itinerary includes three T20Is and three ODIs to be played against the West Indies in the Caribbean.
The PCB is advocating for the conversion of the 50-over matches into T20 matches to better prepare for the 2025 ACC Men’s Asia Cup and the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The PCB has announced that the squad selection for the West Indies tour will be revealed once the series format is determined. Should ODIs remain on the schedule, it’s possible that two distinct squads will be announced.
Concurrently, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has commenced ticket sales for the white-ball series, with the first T20I slated for July 31 at Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, Florida.
The three-match T20I series will continue on August 2 and 3, succeeded by a three-match ODI series in Trinidad on August 8, 10, and 12.
In a promotional effort for the T20I series, fans can take advantage of a special offer – two tickets at the price of one – while single ticket prices have been reduced by 50%. ODI ticket prices range from $8 to $175.
Despite the PCB’s proposition to replace ODIs with additional T20Is, reports indicate that CWI is inclined to uphold the original schedule.
While an official statement is still awaited, sources suggest that the West Indies board seems intent on adhering to the existing plan.
