West Indies Announce Squads for Bangladesh Tour
ST. JOHN’S: Cricket West Indies (CWI) revealed its ODI and T20I teams on Thursday for the forthcoming tour of Bangladesh, scheduled for the latter part of October.
Ackeem Auguste, a promising young batsman, has been selected for his first ODI, taking the place of Evin Lewis, who is sidelined with a wrist injury.
Khary Pierre, who debuted in Tests earlier this month against India in Ahmedabad, will rejoin the ODI squad as the third spin option, along with Gudakesh Motie and all-rounder Roston Chase.
Alick Athanaze is also set to return, having last participated in an ODI in December 2024.
Head Coach Daren Sammy conveyed his enthusiasm for the inclusion of Ackeem Auguste, stressing the significance of cultivating emerging talent within the West Indies structure.
“The selection of Ackeem highlights the pathway Cricket West Indies is establishing for our developing players who have demonstrated the ability to perform at the international standard,” Sammy commented in a statement from CWI.
“He represents the future, having progressed from the Under-15s to the senior level, and is another Academy graduate to be included in an international squad this year,” he added.
Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph are both returning to international play after being absent from the Test tour of India due to injuries. Motie also missed the India series as West Indies managed his workload in preparation for the next T20 World Cup.
Sammy also voiced his confidence in the young players chosen for the Bangladesh tour, emphasizing the need to build a robust talent pool for the future.
“The squad aims to maintain a winning attitude and strong team unity, which are crucial for long-term success leading up to the World Cup,” Sammy stated.
“Facing Bangladesh provides another chance to gain vital points in our quest for automatic qualification for the major event.”
In the T20I squad, left-arm fast bowler Ramon Simmonds and wicketkeeper-batsman Amir Jangoo have been named.
Jangoo will act as a backup for captain Shai Hope, while Simmonds’ inclusion follows a noteworthy CPL 2025 season, where he secured 13 wickets for Barbados Royals and claimed 4 for 15 in his second T20I against Nepal last month.
Prior to the Bangladesh tour, Motie, Keacy Carty, Sherfane Rutherford, Auguste, and Jangoo will attend a preparatory camp at the Chennai Super Kings Academy to adapt to subcontinent conditions.
CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe highlighted the importance of early preparation and exposure to subcontinent conditions for the team’s sustained success.
“With the 2026 T20 World Cup approaching, it’s vital that our players gain experience in these conditions,” said Bascombe.
“The camp will concentrate on acclimatization, skill improvement, and tactical development to prepare them for the Bangladesh series and the upcoming World Cup,” he added.
The West Indies tour of Bangladesh begins with three ODIs in Dhaka on October 18, 21, and 23, followed by three T20Is in Chattogram on October 27, 29, and 31.
