Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator Declines
ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ending April 17, 2025, saw a decrease of 0.69 percent, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Significant price reductions were noted in several essential commodities:
- Tomatoes: Down by 22.77 percent
- Chicken: Decreased by 11.05 percent
- Onions: Fell by 9.82 percent
- Garlic: Reduced by 8.85 percent
- Wheat Flour: Dropped by 2.37 percent
- Potatoes: Declined by 2.18 percent
- Mustard Oil: Lower by 0.95 percent
- LPG: Decreased by 0.89 percent
- Vegetable Ghee (1kg): Down by 0.68 percent
The year-on-year analysis indicates an overall decrease of 2.72 percent. Notable reductions were observed in:
- Onions: -73.63 percent
- Tomatoes: -52.75 percent
- Wheat Flour: -30.14 percent
- Garlic: -28.94 percent
- Potatoes: -20.92 percent
- Chilli Powder: -18.94 percent
- Tea (Lipton): -16.98 percent
- Chicken: -15.17 percent
- Petrol: -13.24 percent
- Electricity Charges (Q1): -12.66 percent
- Diesel: -10.85 percent
Conversely, significant price increases were recorded for:
- Ladies Sandal: +55.62 percent
- Moong: +27.21 percent
- Powdered Milk: +24.71 percent
- Pulse Gram: +21.00 percent
- Beef: +19.06 percent
- Sugar: +17.14 percent
- Vegetable Ghee (2.5kg): +15.75 percent
- Vegetable Ghee (1kg): +15.43 percent
- Cooked Daal: +13.40 percent
- Firewood: +10.49 percent
- Shirting: +10.28 percent
- Lawn Printed: +10.26 percent
During the analyzed week, of the 51 items tracked, 16 (31.37 percent) experienced price increases, 18 (35.29 percent) saw price decreases, and 17 (33.34 percent) remained stable.
The SPI for various consumption groups showed the following decreases:
- Up to Rs17,732: -0.80 percent
- Rs17,732-Rs22,888: -0.80 percent
- Rs22,889-Rs29,517: -0.72 percent
- Rs29,518-Rs44,175: -0.73 percent
- Above Rs44,175: -0.64 percent
Items with price increases during the week included:
- Lawn Printed: +2.90 percent
- LPG: +1.53 percent
- Bananas: +1.45 percent
- Long Cloth: +1.23 percent
- Bread: +0.55 percent
- Cigarettes: +0.27 percent
- Beef: +0.25 percent
- Curd: +0.24 percent
- Salt Powder: +0.03 percent
Items with price decreases during the week included:
- Tomatoes (1kg): -22.77 percent
- Chicken Farm Broiler (Live) (1kg): -11.05 percent
- Onions (1kg): -9.82 percent
- Garlic (1kg): -8.85 percent
