Qalandars and Gladiators Each Secure a Point Following Match Abandonment
LAHORE: The highly anticipated Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 encounter between the Lahore Qalandars and the Quetta Gladiators at their home ground was called off due to adverse weather conditions on Thursday.
The Qalandars and Gladiators, holding the second and third positions respectively, both aspired to displace Islamabad United, the defending champions, from the top spot in the standings. However, the former champions ultimately shared a point each.
Consequently, both the Qalandars and Gladiators maintained their respective second and third positions, each with nine points.
The Qalandars are scheduled to play against the Karachi Kings on Sunday, while the Gladiators will face the current titleholders, United, on Saturday.
After being sent in to bat, the Qalandars managed to score 111/3 in 11.3 overs before a significant dust storm struck the Gaddafi Stadium, halting play.
The dust storm was succeeded by a consistent, light rainfall, which ultimately led to the match’s cancellation.
The Qalandars had a shaky start to their innings when Khurram Shahzad dismissed their seasoned opener, Fakhar Zaman, for a duck on the innings’ third ball.
Following the early setback, Abdullah Shafique partnered with Mohammad Naeem, and together they staged a remarkable recovery, forming a partnership of over a hundred runs.
The pair contributed 102 runs for the second wicket before Naeem was dismissed by Abrar Ahmed. He scored 50 runs from 30 balls, including three boundaries and four sixes.
Abrar claimed another wicket in his subsequent over, removing Daryl Mitchell for three runs, which reduced the Qalandars to 111/3 in 11.3 overs before the dust storm interrupted the game.
Abdullah Shafique remained not out with 53 runs from 32 balls, featuring three fours and an equal number of sixes.
For the Gladiators, Abrar secured two wickets, while Shahzad took one.
