Karachi (Afzal Nadeem Dogar) – Pakistan’s air travel has been heavily impacted due to adverse weather conditions and administrative issues, resulting in the cancellation of four flights, rerouting of three others to alternative airports, and delays affecting 47 flights across the country.
Flight Cancellations and Rerouting of Flights
As per aviation sources, flights between Islamabad and Gilgit, as well as those from Bishkek to Islamabad, were cancelled due to bad weather in the northern regions. Additionally, weather-related issues also forced flights from Kuwait to Sialkot (PK 240) and from Dammam to Sialkot (PK 244) to be redirected to Lahore for landing.
Another flight, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) PK 270, flying from Islamabad to Jeddah, was diverted to Karachi for refueling due to unforeseen conditions.
Significant Delays at Major Airports
Along with the cancellations, 47 flights experienced significant delays. Karachi airport faced delays in five departures, Islamabad saw 16 flights delayed, Lahore experienced a delay in 18 flights, and airports in Faisalabad, Multan, and Peshawar reported delays affecting seven flights. Passengers across various cities and airports have been left frustrated as they await updates and alternative arrangements.
Impact of Weather on Aviation Operations
The ongoing weather disruptions, particularly in the northern regions, have created significant operational challenges for airlines. The mountainous terrain and unpredictable weather conditions have added complexity to flight schedules, forcing airlines to take swift decisions, including cancellations and rerouting. Such events often result in a ripple effect, leading to widespread delays at major airports.
Aviation Authorities Working to Minimize Disruptions
Aviation authorities are working to minimize disruptions and keep passengers informed about any further developments. The management at major airports is coordinating closely with airlines to ensure that travelers are given updated flight schedules and alternative travel options when necessary.
Passengers are advised to check their flight status regularly and allow extra time for their journeys, as weather conditions are expected to remain volatile in the coming days.
Conclusion: Flight Travel Affected by Weather and Operational Issues
As severe weather continues to affect air travel in Pakistan, passengers are advised to stay updated on their flight statuses and plan accordingly. The challenges presented by weather and administrative issues underline the complexities involved in managing air traffic, particularly in regions affected by seasonal changes. Travelers are encouraged to remain patient as the situation is managed and resolved.
