Akram Discusses Controversy Over Tournament Schedule

KARACHI: Wasim Akram, the celebrated former Pakistani fast bowler, emphasized that cricket should proceed regardless of whether India competes against Pakistan in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2025.

During his appearance on the Stick With Cricket Podcast, Akram addressed the schedule-related debate.

Akram stated, “The Asia Cup schedule has been announced, and there’s some negative reaction. However, in Pakistan, we are composed. We will be okay whether we participate or not. The sport must continue.”

The former captain also voiced his hopes for the resumption of bilateral cricket matches between the two major rivals.

He mentioned, “I am hoping to witness a Test series between India and Pakistan during my lifetime.”

“Putting politics aside, I am not involved in politics. They are devoted to their nation, and we are to ours. Let’s maintain respectful boundaries. Highlight your country’s achievements; the same applies to both Pakistan and India. This is often easier to say than to put into practice.”

The Asia Cup is scheduled to take place in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from September 9 to 28, featuring eight teams organized into two groups. Group A consists of India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, while Group B comprises Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong.

Dubai is set to host 11 games, while Abu Dhabi will host eight. The tournament kicks off on September 9 with a match between Afghanistan and Hong Kong in Abu Dhabi.

India will commence their campaign against the UAE on September 10 in Dubai, which will be followed by their highly anticipated match against Pakistan on September 14.

Their last group-stage match against Oman will take place on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.

The Super Four stage is scheduled from September 20 to 26, and the final is slated for September 28 in Dubai.
