Wales Coach Wilkinson Confirms Players’ Well-being After Bus Incident

Wales’ coach, Rhian Wilkinson, has reassured that her players are in good condition, albeit shaken, following a bus incident on their way to Stadion St Gallen for a training session on Tuesday. The team was preparing for their Women’s Euro 2025 match against France.

Wilkinson, traveling separately with team captain Angharad James, emphasized that the players’ health and safety were paramount ahead of Wednesday’s game.

“Football takes a backseat at this moment. We’re understandably shaken, being apart from the team knowing what they’ve just experienced,” Wilkinson stated during a press conference. “However, we have a resilient group, and I’ve been assured everyone is doing okay. We’ve prepared for unforeseen circumstances, and this certainly qualifies.”

“We will connect with everyone, ensure their well-being, and then refocus on the match. Our immediate concern is gathering them together and removing them from the location of the incident. We will continue to monitor their condition.”

Wilkinson mentioned the incident occurred close to the team’s hotel.

The Football Association of Wales released a statement confirming that “All passengers on the Cymru National Team bus and in the other vehicle are unharmed. The FAW’s main objective was to move the players from the scene and return them to the Cymru training base to continue preparations for tomorrow’s match.”

Wales, making their debut in a major tournament, previously suffered a 3-0 defeat against the Netherlands on Saturday and are at risk of elimination as they prepare to face France on Wednesday.

Wales is also scheduled to compete against England in their final group match.
