Verstappen Linked to McLaren Move Amidst Red Bull Struggles

Following a challenging Formula 1 season for Max Verstappen with Red Bull, speculation has emerged regarding a potential switch to McLaren in 2026.

In a recent discussion, F1 commentators Ewan Gale and Brandon Sutton shared insights into the Dutchman’s future, especially after Red Bull’s underwhelming performance at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Verstappen, a four-time world champion, has previously hinted at a departure from Red Bull. With Aston Martin reportedly preparing a substantial offer, Gale suggests that Verstappen’s move to McLaren could materialize.

“Aston Martin will possess a completely unique car in the upcoming season, which is appealing because it’s essentially a works team. This will attract Verstappen,” Gale noted.

“Whether he assesses the situation and expresses reservations, or whether Adrian Newey influences him similarly to Ross Brawn’s influence on Lewis Hamilton before 2014, that could sway him. The alternative destination for Max could be McLaren. We are aware that Zak Brown is open to a deal. If a Norris and Piastri rivalry intensifies this season, would either consider a change? Possibly.

“That’s unconventional thinking, but Verstappen isn’t necessarily limited to Aston Martin. Other opportunities might arise, and this is F1.”

Brandon Sutton proposed that Red Bull should focus on retaining Verstappen by persuading him to decline offers from other teams.

At the Bahrain Grand Prix, Max Verstappen was outperformed by Oscar Piastri and McLaren, finishing sixth despite starting seventh, which led to criticism.
