Akmal Voices Frustration Over NOC Delays, Considers Legal Action

Pakistani cricketer Umar Akmal has conveyed his profound disappointment regarding the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) continued denial of a No Objection Certificate (NOC). He has pledged to pursue legal remedies against what he perceives as discriminatory treatment.

In a recent media interaction, the 35-year-old cricketer articulated his discontent with being repeatedly overlooked by the board, despite having previously prioritized representing his nation over potentially lucrative opportunities in international leagues.

“My foremost priority has always been international cricket. I turned down significant league contracts to play for Pakistan. However, I now regret those choices, as I never anticipated facing such treatment. I am uncertain of the reasons behind this, nor do I know who within the PCB believes I should be prevented from playing cricket,” Akmal stated.

“I am prepared to state publicly that there are players who severely tarnished Pakistan’s reputation and were penalized for their actions; yet, they now hold pivotal positions within the national team,” he asserted.

Akmal recounted a previous occurrence where he incurred financial setbacks due to the delayed issuance of an NOC for a league participation window spanning from the 12th to the 25th of a specific month.

“I previously encountered difficulties with my NOC, which resulted in considerable financial losses. Despite media support, my request for an NOC from the 12th to the 25th was only granted on the evening of the 20th. This made the decision very difficult. The manner in which my contract was undermined is exceptionally unjust,” he explained.

The right-handed batsman has submitted another NOC application to participate in an ICC-approved league in Switzerland; however, his request is still pending.

“I have now applied for another NOC, but I fail to understand the reason for the delay in its issuance. It is evident that my intention is to play in an ICC-approved league. Otherwise, there would be no purpose in applying,” he questioned.

“What deeply upsets me is that individuals in the PCB who possess authority over these matters are themselves former cricketers. Their conduct, despite their cricketing background, is profoundly disheartening,” he added.

The wicketkeeper hinted at possible legal action if the situation continues, emphasizing that he believes he still has time to continue his career.

“I will have to resort to that. I am not old. If I am not given the chance to play for Pakistan, I cannot end my career. Other cricketers older than me are still representing Pakistan and competing in leagues,” he stated.

“They are receiving NOCs, while I am not. If I present the evidence before the media, you and the public can make a determination. That would make me feel much better,” he concluded.

Notably, Umar Akmal possesses extensive experience in franchise cricket, having participated in leagues such as the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and the Champions League T20.

He has played in 84 T20I matches for Pakistan, amassing 1,690 runs at a strike rate of 122.73, which includes eight half-centuries. His last appearance for the national team was in 2019.

Akmal has participated in 279 T20 matches, scoring 5,839 runs at a strike rate of 131.00, with 34 fifties and one century.
