BCB Women’s Wing Concerned as Team Loses to Under-15 Boys
DHAKA: In preparation for the forthcoming ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, the Bangladesh women’s squad, known as the Green team, suffered a setback, losing a practice match against an Under-15 boys’ team by 41 runs in Dhaka on Friday.
The match was part of a domestic three-team one-day event that included Bangladesh Green (the women’s team), Bangladesh Red (a senior women’s team), and the Under-15 boys.
The Under-15 boys batted first, setting a target of 189/7 in 39 overs. The Bangladesh Women’s team could only achieve 135/7 in 30 overs in response.
Previously, the Bangladesh Red women’s team experienced a significant 87-run loss to the same Under-15 boys’ team.
The boys’ team had set a target of 182 runs in 50 overs. The Bangladesh women’s team faltered, scoring only 94 runs in 38 overs.
The batting order struggled, with just four players reaching double digits. Sharmin Sultana, the opener, was the highest scorer with 20 runs, while the others could not provide substantial resistance.
The ICC Women’s World Cup is scheduled to start on September 30 in India and Sri Lanka, and the Pakistan women’s team is expected to play all their matches in Sri Lanka.
Nazmul Abedin, the chairperson of the BCB women’s section, told the media in Dhaka that the team’s performance before the World Cup was worrying.
A BCB official stated that losing to an Under-15 boys’ team is indeed concerning, and other cricket-playing countries are far ahead of our women’s team.
These defeats are prompting broader anxieties as Bangladesh prepares to participate in the World Cup following a five-month absence from international competition.
