ISLAMABAD In a major diplomatic development, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrived in Islamabad early Wednesday for an official visit aimed at strengthening Pakistan-Turkey defence cooperation and regional ties.

Upon arrival, he was warmly received by Additional Secretary Syed Ali Asad Gilani at the airport. The high-level visit marks a significant step in enhancing bilateral diplomatic and strategic relations between the two brotherly nations.

During his visit, Hakan Fidan is scheduled to hold key meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Asim Munir. The discussions will focus on boosting military collaboration, advancing defence agreements, and improving strategic cooperation in the region.

A day earlier, Turkish Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler also arrived in Islamabad. His agenda includes meetings with senior Pakistani officials to further expand cooperation in military technology, joint exercises, and regional security frameworks.

Pakistan and Turkey have enjoyed historically strong diplomatic and defence ties. This visit reaffirms their shared vision for regional peace, mutual respect, and enhanced cooperation in strategic sectors.

Despite Ankara’s cordial ties with other nations, its support for Pakistan has led to trade backlash from Indian retailers, with boycotts of Turkish products and cancellation of contracts with Turkish aviation service providers citing national security concerns.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also met President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the 17th ECO Summit in Khankendi, discussing ongoing regional developments and matters of mutual interest.

These high-profile engagements between Pakistan and Turkey signal a renewed commitment to deepening trust, enhancing security cooperation, and building a future of shared strategic interests.
