Tunisian Woman’s Journey Home After Lyari Romance Ends

Sinda Ayyari, a Tunisian national who journeyed to Karachi following a social media romance, married a local man from Lyari, and subsequently divorced, has been transferred to the care of the Tunisian Embassy by the Women Police Station Liaquatabad.

With the embassy’s support, she was then transported to Islamabad, where arrangements are being finalized for her return to Tunisia.

Law enforcement stated that the woman was handed over to embassy personnel under the instructions of the additional inspector general of police. They added that with the assistance of the Tunisian Embassy, she was moved from Karachi to Islamabad, where steps are being taken to facilitate her journey back to her native country.

Ayyari, aged 19, connected with Muhammad Amir, a resident of Khadda Market, Lyari, through social media. After developing feelings for each other, they chose to get married. The woman secured a Pakistani visa and arrived in Karachi on November 28, 2024. However, the marriage later ended in divorce.

According to local law enforcement, she also attempted to take her own life in Lyari after her divorce from her Pakistani spouse.

Initially, the couple enjoyed a period of happiness. Nevertheless, minor disagreements arose in recent months, ultimately leading to Amir ending the marriage. Since then, Ayyari had been stranded in Pakistan, as her 90-day visa expired on February 18. She was unable to go back to her home country and voiced profound anguish over her predicament.

After a news channel broadcasted the story, the Ministry of Interior offered to issue an expedited exit permit. Visa officials from the ministry requested her documents and advised her to submit an online application for exit clearance.

According to police reports, the woman had attempted suicide before seeking help from law enforcement. In a video statement, Senda clarified her motivations, stating: “I intended to purchase a ticket and depart. Amir showed neither care nor attention towards me.”

Authorities clarified that the woman has not lodged any official complaint regarding mistreatment or violence against Amir. Considering her vulnerable state, police are currently providing her with accommodation and coordinating her safe return to Tunisia.
