Karachi Schools to Remain Closed Due to Flooding

Following severe downpours that led to widespread urban flooding, schools throughout Karachi will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, according to Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon’s announcement on Tuesday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has cautioned that the upcoming 48 hours are crucial concerning continued rainfall. The weather authority has indicated that more precipitation is anticipated for the city, even after the recent devastating weather event.

Many students are still struggling to get home due to inundated roadways, causing considerable anxiety for both them and their families.

Major transit routes like Sharea Faisal and University Road are still impassable because of significant flooding. Several feet of water cover many of the city’s interior roads.

Karachi has been crippled by severe urban flooding caused by excessive rainfall, which has submerged main roads, shut down businesses, and cut off power in numerous areas.

Officials are urging residents to avoid travel, as many commuters returning from work and educational institutions remain stranded. The situation, especially in areas like Malir with rising water levels, is evoking memories of the catastrophic rains of 2022.
