Tony Hemming Steps Down as PCB Chief Curator
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced the departure of chief curator Tony Hemming on Saturday.
Hemming was appointed to the position in July of the previous year, with a two-year agreement, but he has resigned after serving for 13 months.
It is worth mentioning that the Western Australian expert joined the PCB following the completion of his term with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Sources suggest that Hemming has been in discussions with the BCB regarding a potential return to his former position.
During his tenure as the PCB’s chief curator, Hemming was responsible for preparing the pitches for Pakistan’s ICC World Test Championship matches against Bangladesh (two matches in August/September) and England (three matches in October) last year.
Hemming also managed pitch preparation for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9.
Tony Hemming brings a wealth of experience to the role, with a career spanning nearly four decades.
He has worked at several prominent cricket venues in Australia, including Melbourne, Perth, and Tasmania, as well as in other countries such as Bangladesh, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, where he served as the ICC’s Head Curator in Dubai from 2007 to 2017.
During his time with the ICC, Hemming also oversaw pitch preparations at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, which was a home venue for Pakistan between 2009 and 2019.
It is important to note that Hemming succeeded Zahid, who began his career by joining the Chairman of the PCB Curators Committee in 2001.
Zahid was later promoted to Chief Curator in 2004. He initially left the role in 2020 but was later reinstated by former PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja in 2021.
