Green Pakistan Project Advances Sustainable Exports
The Green Pakistan Project (GPP) is being recognized as a significant achievement for transparency, adherence, and global benchmarks in Pakistan’s export industry, signifying a substantial move toward sustainability.
Ather Bari, Chairman of the Towel Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (TMA), lauded the initiative on Wednesday, noting its innovative path for industries. He stated, “By integrating sustainability into business operations, the Green Pakistan Project has established a new benchmark for our industries. As global markets increasingly demand environmental responsibility, this project ensures our exporters remain competitive, compliant, and future-ready.”
For the first time in Pakistan’s trade history, the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA), Towel Manufacturers’ Association of Pakistan (TMA), and Pakistan Sports Goods Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PSGMEA) have cultivated in-house Certified Sustainability Reporting Practitioners.
These specialists received training directly from the German Importers Association, which supports over 300 European purchasers. The training adheres to the EU Green Deal, EU CSDDD, and ESG reporting frameworks, representing considerable advancement in aligning Pakistan’s exports with international sustainability criteria.
These certified professionals are currently assisting 54 factories in creating sustainability reports, thanks to technical support from German Importers and Fruit of Sustainability (SMC-Private) Limited. This is an unprecedented step toward moral production, designed to increase confidence among international purchasers.
Ather Bari voiced his appreciation to Dr. Michael Arretz, Project Director, and Sarim Mehmood, the local collaborator, for their direction and foresight. He added, “This accomplishment demonstrates the shared commitment of our associations and partners. We are not only safeguarding our industries by embracing sustainability, but we are also creating a more environmentally friendly and just future for coming generations.”
The Green Pakistan Project, supported by cooperation between domestic industry groups and international allies, is regarded as a novel standard for Pakistan’s trade and export procedures.
