Former Pacer Criticizes PSL 10 Pitches, Cites Attendance Concerns

Tanvir Ahmed, a former Pakistani fast bowler, has voiced significant disapproval regarding the quality of pitches utilized in the current Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10. He labeled them as ‘pathetic,’ asserting they negatively impact the standard of play.

The former cricketer, having represented Pakistan in five Test matches, a pair of ODIs, and a single T20I, shared his reservations on his personal YouTube channel.

Ahmed specifically called out the Rawalpindi pitches, suggesting that matches at the venue are becoming monotonous due to the deteriorating pitch conditions.

“In every game held in Rawalpindi, the team that sets a target of 200 isn’t challenged; instead, the opposing side is consistently bowled out for scores between 130 and 150.”

While admitting that chasing is easier in Karachi in comparison to Rawalpindi, Ahmed pointed out some inconsistencies.

“Targets of 200-plus were being achieved more frequently in Karachi,” stated Ahmed.

“For instance, the Multan Sultans managed to score close to 230 at the National Bank Stadium, largely due to James Vince’s impressive century, only for the Karachi Kings to chase it down successfully.”

“We were informed that the Karachi pitch had Australian soil; is this what Australian pitches are like? How can batsmen score when the ball seams excessively and spinners experience inconsistent bounce?”

These remarks are made as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) retains the services of Australian curator Tony Hemming under a two-year arrangement, which is set to expire in July of the following year.

Hemming was also in charge of pitch preparation for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, which took place earlier this year.

Ahmed questioned Hemming’s effectiveness, stating, “The PCB suggests he is a highly-paid professional, but what is the value if the pitches remain substandard?”

He proposed that inadequate pitches are a contributing element to poor stadium attendance, especially in Karachi. “People are not coming to the matches – the pitches are part of the reason, as are poor facilities.

“The parking area is far away, the heat is intense, and the overall experience is embarrassing for the fans,” he concluded.
