Tameen Khan Aims for Excellence at Asian Athletics Championship

Pakistan’s prominent female sprinter, Tameen Khan, is determined to deliver an exceptional performance at the upcoming 2025 Asian Athletics Championship. The event is scheduled to be held in Gumi, South Korea, from May 27 to 31. Khan is focused on excelling in this significant competition and pursuing her aspiration to represent Pakistan in the Olympics.

The 100-meter specialist, recognized for her strong presence in the national athletic scene, recently shared her objectives, training schedule, and challenges during a media interaction in Peshawar on Tuesday.

Tameen emphasized that her recent accomplishments, which include securing three gold medals in national tournaments, have positioned her to represent Pakistan in the Asian arena.

She underscored her dedication to sprint training and her ambition to broaden her international experience through training overseas, viewing it as a crucial step toward Olympic readiness.

“I am set to participate in the 100-meter race at the Asian Championship. My selection to the team followed my success in winning gold medals in three events, notably the National Championship. Having twice been named Pakistan’s fastest female athlete, my objective is to achieve my utmost performance in South Korea,” Tameen stated.

With the championship approaching, her preparations have intensified. She outlined her weekly regimen, dividing her time between sessions in the gym and track workouts to maintain optimal fitness.

“My training involves track sessions three times a week, complemented by three days at the gym. As the event draws closer, my focus is increasingly on sprint exercises,” she added.

Tameen addressed the infrastructural limitations she encounters in Peshawar. She described how the absence of a suitable running track has compelled her to adapt, often practicing in less-than-ideal environments.

“The Qayyum Stadium has lacked a proper track for two years, leading me to train even on grass. While the track in Hayatabad is small and not in good shape, I am still confident in my preparation, as my timing is satisfactory,” she remarked.

Tameen’s long-term ambition remains clear: to represent Pakistan at the Olympic Games.

“Every athlete dreams of representing their country at the Olympics. With three years until the next Games, I am seeking opportunities for overseas training to enhance my preparation and gain valuable international exposure,” she concluded.
