This achievement marks McIntosh’s second world record in less than a week, reinforcing her position as a leading figure in international swimming.
Earlier, she broke the 400-meter freestyle world record, finishing in 3:54.18, improving upon the previous record of 3:55.38 set by Ariarne Titmus of Australia at the 2023 world championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
McIntosh is scheduled to participate in seven events at the Canadian trials, including the 800m freestyle, 400m individual medley, 200m freestyle, 200m butterfly, 200m backstroke, and the 400m individual medley.
She intends to participate in five events at the upcoming world championships in Singapore, with the goal of expanding her collection of four world titles.
At the Paris Olympics, McIntosh secured three gold medals, winning the 200m butterfly, 200m individual medley, and 400m individual medley.
Besides her recent world records, McIntosh also delivered a notable performance in the 800m freestyle, achieving the third-fastest time ever recorded.
A three-time Olympic gold medalist, McIntosh has accumulated 26 medals in various major international competitions.
She initially gained international attention at the age of 14, becoming the youngest member of the Canadian team at the Tokyo 2020 summer Olympics, where she finished fourth in the 400m freestyle.
Recognized for her prowess in medley and butterfly disciplines, McIntosh currently holds world records in the 200m and 400m individual medley, as well as the 400m freestyle.
She also possesses both the Olympic and textile records in the 200m butterfly.
In short course competitions, she has secured four gold medals at the World swimming championships and holds short course world records in the 400m freestyle, 200m butterfly, and 400m individual medley.
